Chapters

A chapter is a grouping of above thirty men or boys, who share the beliefs and values of Padare and who meet monthly to discuss, reflect and share experiences in developing an anti-sexist society.

  • In urban and rural areas a chapter will consist of a group of men spearheading Padare activities.
  • In schools and colleges a chapter will be a group of young men who share Padare’s beliefs and values.

Men’s Groups

A men’s group (also known as a network) is a grouping of less than thirty men or boys, who share the beliefs and values of Padare and who meet monthly to discuss, reflect and share experiences in developing an anti-sexist society.

Responsibilities of a Chapter or Men’s Group

  • To conscientise, sensitize and mobilize target community including business and church on gender related issues such as Gender Based Violence, the Domestic Violence Act and HIV/AIDS
  • Advocate for an anti-sexist society within the community
  • Ensure implementation of Padare and more specifically, Chapter objectives
  • Participate in the coordination of gender related activities within  the community
  • Engage young and older men in gender related activities
  • Provide technical and mentorship support in the formation of new chapters

Chapter values and guiding principles

  • Sanctity of marriage as a holy matrimony
  • Men of quality are not afraid of equality
  • Men can make a difference in promoting a gender just society
  • Culture is dynamic and a vehicle for social enrichment if properly handled
  • Women and mothers are instrumental in promoting loving and peaceful marriages/families
  • Children should grow up in a peaceful environment
  • People are equal regardless of race, creed and political, economic or social affiliation
  • Members should have the zeal and determination to create a gender just society
  • Members should have an anti-sexist approach to family life
  • Members should promote harmony and tranquillity in the family
  • Members should be motivated to cure broken families
